Resoponce to first reading.
I found these reading educational and insightful. I enjoyed the freshman year one most because I myself have never lived the “college life” yes I’m a sophomore in college and have had a lot of worldly experience but I came to college for the education nothing more. So I’ve never lived in a dorm or had to “be involved” with other students and I liked how it was represented in the writing. I found it interesting how the student body was observed with many changes in the one year that she performed the study. It was also refreshing to read as an observation to diversity in the students. Going deeper than race or family history. There were individuals from all walks of life and how they all intermingled in the new society of college living. I’m a little disappointed in some of the reactions she received about her age. It seemed that people from most every background were accepted by their peers but individuals in different age categories have a more difficult time “fitting in”. I also liked the mind at work. Less of an entertaining read but still educational. I liked that it had a much larger focus on individuals outside of the academic world and expressed how education and knowledge can be interpreted in many ways and leading away from the traditional schooling to be educated mentality.
